Why do you care if we gain a reward and they earn a sin?

The great pious Tabi’ee: Ibraheem AnNakh’ee was one-eyed.

His student: Sulaimaan bin Mahran was A’mash (could not see well at night).
One day they were walking together towards the Masjid.
An Nakh’ee: O Sulaimaan! you take one route to the Masjid, and I will take a different route. There are people with weak minds ahead, and I am afraid if they saw us walking together that they might say: a one-eyed man is walking with a week-sighted man. They will backbite us and earn a sin.

Al-A’mash: Why do you care if we gain a reward and they earn a sin?!

An-Nakh’ee: Subhanallah! It would be better for us and them to come out safe, rather than us gaining a reward, and them earning a sin.
