“May Allāh not prevent you from Ḥajj every year.”

By Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Maghāmasī
Watch Arabic video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAbOQ3plN2I

I know of a man from Egypt who performed Ḥajj 32 years ago in his youth. He, at the time, was riding in a nine-passenger vehicle. In the front seats were a husband and wife. Behind them was a woman very old in age who, due to the congestion inside, was in an uncomfortable position, and her age and body’s condition didn’t help the situation any better. So, the man who I know tried to convince the man in the front to switch seats with the old woman so that she could up front. He refused, but this man kept on pushing him to do it until he finally accepted.  The husband ended up going to the back seat and the old woman was able to sit up front. When the old woman felt relaxed and was able to extend her legs she said to this man, in her local dialect, what means, “May Allāh not prevent you from Ḥajj every year.”

This man has performed Ḥajj until now—and I know him—for 32 years. 32 pilgrimages since she supplicated for him that year! Sometimes a new year comes and the time of Ḥajj approaches, but he doesn’t have the money or even the intention to perform it. Yet, without any notice, he’s led to perform Ḥajj by the blessing of that woman’s supplication.

`Alī (may Allāh be pleased with him) said, “Allāh has concealed two within two: He has concealed His pleasure in righteous acts, so one does not know which righteous act of his pleases Allāh; and He has concealed His awliyā’ amongst His servants, so one does not know which servant of Allāh is His walī.[friend]”

The point here: perform good deeds and desire for them to be sincerely for Allāh’s Sake. Perhaps you’ll do something for someone who is unknown amongst the people—which is better—and his supplications are answered.

I Didn’t Expect the Reply to Come So Quick!

Bismillah al Rahman al Raheem
Shaykh Khaled al-Wuhaybi narrates:

This is a story that has a lesson to be learned, it happened to me personally and was not conveyed to me (perhaps some of you have heard it from me before, but I repeat it as a reminder).

Here I am writing it to you as it occured, so that perhaps a reader may benefit from it …
Or it may find someone desperate, and send hope to his heart …
Or find someone who was haste, and stopped supplicating to his Lord!!

On Wednesday 22/4/1423 of the Hijri Calendar

During the time of Duhr (Noon) prayers, in the Holy Mosque in Mecca, I was standing close to the chamber of the Muezzin (one who calls to prayer), when a brother signalled to me to fill a gap in the row next to him after the Iqamah has been called. So I went forward.

After we completed the prayer, I went to the back a little to sit with my legs crossed and be more comfortable while I do my Tasbeeh (Glorify and Praise Allah). I looked at that man beside me, and he appeared as if his body is worn out like the poor of the Sacred Mosque. He had the appearance of stillness and humility, and had placed his hands on his thighs as he supplicated to his Lord with humbleness. I put my hand into my pocket reaching for the money which I had tied into groups of 1 Riyal, 5 Riyals, and 10 Riyals.

I took out 5 Riyals and placed it hidden in the palm of my hand and approached him, extending my arm to him to shake his hand. We shook hands and he felt the money in my palm, then pulled his hand quickly away without taking the money or even knowing how much was in my hand, telling me: May Allah reward you greatly

I said: Won’t you accept it?

He did not respond, so I felt that he is being modest, which is why he did not accept it.

So I placed it back in my pocket. I stood back a little, and performed the Sunnah, and noticed the man turning to me again and again as if he is waiting for me to finish my prayers!!

When I completed my prayers, he came next to me and greeted me, and then asked: How much was it that you were going to give me?

I said: I offered you and you refused to take it, so why would it matter if it was one riyal or a hundred?!

So he said: By Allah, how much was it that you were going to give me?

I said: Do not ask me by Allah, this matter between me and you has finished!

He said: I was supplicating to my Lord about my dire need for five Riyals, so How much was it you were going to give me?

I said: By Allah, who there is no God worthy of worship besides Him, the amount which I was offering you was 5 Riyals!

The man started weeping.

I asked him: Do you need more?

He said: no
Then he said: Subhan Allah, you were placing the money in my hand as I was still asking my Lord for it!!

I said: Why then did you pull your hand away without taking it?

He said: I didn’t expect the reply to come so quick

I said: Subhan Allah, Indeed Allah is All-Hearing, Close to those who ask Him, Answering their call; He will not come down to you Himself to give you what you asked, but truly he will facilitate for you one of his slaves to fulfill for you what you need!

I offered him the five riyals again, and he took it, and refused to take anything extra. Indeed, Glory to Allah, the Great, who said of Himself:

{And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me …} (Al Baqarah 2:186)

al Qurtubi: "..And nothing was able to harm me until I left it."

Khawlah bint Hakim narrated that Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

“Whoever arrives somewhere and says:

‘I seek refuge with Allah’s complete Words from the evil He has Created

(أعوذ بكلمات الله التامات من شر ما خلق),’

nothing will harm until he leaves that place.” This was reported by Muslim (2708).

In ‘Taysir al-’Aziz al-Hamid’ (p. 146), Sulayman bin ‘Abdillah relates that al-Qurtubi commented on this by saying:

“And this is true and real, and I believe in it due to the textual proof as well as my own experience.

Since I heard this narration, I would constantly act upon it and nothing was able to harm me until I left it. One night, I was stung by a scorpion in al-Mahdiyyah (a province in Tunisia). So, I thought to myself until I realized that I had forgotten to seek refuge using these words.”

In ‘al-Qawl al-Mufid’ (1/155), Ibn al-’Uthaymin commented on this hadith:

“This protection is from all human and jinni devils – whether they are visible or invisible – until the person leaves that place. And there is no way that what is described in this narration will not take place, as these are the words of the truthful one who is believed (i.e. the Messenger of Allah)! However, if what is mentioned in this narration does not take place, it is because of a preventative factor and not because of a deficiency in the method itself or the narration. This also applies to anything that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) mentioned as a Shar’i method in which the desired outcome is not achieved. So, this is not because of a fault in the method, and is rather because of the presence of an obstacle that is blocking the desired outcome.

For example, reciting ‘al-Fatihah’ for a sick person is a form of healing. Some people recite it and find that the sick person is not healed. This is not because of a deficiency in this method, and is instead because there is something present that is preventing this method from bringing about its desired effect. Another example is mentioning Allah before having sexual intercourse in order to prevent Satan from harming the future child. Some people will mention Allah and find that Satan still ends up harming the child due to something that is preventing this effect from being achieved.

So, you should check yourself to figure out what the obstacle is so that you can remove it and experience the effect of the method.”

"O Abu ad-Darda’! Your house has been burned down!"

http://www.makedua.com/i/034-117.gif

Allahumma inni ‘a’udhubika minal hammi walhuzni, Wal’ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, Wa dal’id-daiyni wa ghalabatir-rajal

‘O Allaah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being over powered by men.’

Sahih al-Bukhari, 7/158

Once, they came to Abu ad-Darda’ while he was in the mosque, saying to him: “O Abu ad-Darda’! Your house has been burned down!” He replied: “By Allah, it has not been burned down.” They said: “It has been burned down!” He replied: “By Allah, it has not been burned down.” They went to see that the fire had consumed everything in the area, and had stopped right at Abu ad-Darda”s house, and he did not even get up to go see for himself. They came back and asked him: “What drove you to insist that it had not been burned down?” He replied: “The Messenger of Allah had taught me some words that, if I say them, I will not be stricken with any harm,” – he is secure! – “‘O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sadness and grief, and I seek refuge with You from inability and laziness, and I seek refuge with You from cowardliness and stinginess, and I seek refuge with You from being overpowered by debts and men,’ so, I made this supplication.”

In regards to this same supplication, Abu Umamah narrated: “I was sitting in the mosque, when the Messenger of Allah asked me: “What is wrong, Abu Umamah?” I replied: “I am in distress because of a debt that I owe.” The Prophet then told me: “Supplicate with these words (‘O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sadness and grief…’).” So, I supplicated with these words, and Allah removed my distress, and paid off my debt.

>So she said to her father; "Say Ameen three times.."

>

One of the Ulema from Riyadh narrated to us saying:

We went to one of the doors of the hospitals and we found a man with his daughter and she was in her illness, and her age was 40 years old and had not married. Every man who came for her, her father rejected him.

He (the shaykh) said: he was from the greediest people, a person of the Dunya however his Dunya did not benefit him. He had many offices, real-estate and cars and clinics, however he was known between the people that if his daughter were to be married, he cannot marry her except with hundreds of thousands, so all of the young men who came to her rejected marrying her, because those who came for her were poor youth. And most of the conditions of the people did not allow them to pay the high mahr. So every righteous man who came he was asked about his employment and his cars and his salary and if he informed him that he did not have that then he was left, until she reached 40 years of age. Then she suffered an acute illness and was admitted to the hospital and when the time for her death came, and it is a time for meeting the One, the Only One who Judges between the parties, and there is no Judge Except Him, and the One who does Justice between the Oppressed and the Oppressor, then when the death came to meet her, she said:

O Father, come close!

So he came closer to her.

She said: Say Aameen.

So he said: Aameen.

So she said: Say Aameen.

So he said: Aameen.

-By Allah, this was narrated to us by a Shaykh from the Mashayikh who witnessed this-

So she said: Say Aameen three times,

Then she said: May Allah prohibit for you Jannah as you have prohibited for me the delicacy of marriage

40 years she stayed in the house of her father, why wait?

In question answer program, a woman called Sheikh Abdullah Almutlaq and asked him a question. And after he gave her the answer, she asked him to pray to Allah that she is bless with Sheikh Mohammad Al-Arifi as her husband. Sheikh Almutlaq replied to her saying do you want Sheikh Alarifi for his good looks or knowledge? She answered for his knowledge. Sheikh Almutlaq replied to her that Sheikh Saleh Alsadlan was more knowledgeable than him, I will pray to Allah that you be blessed with him as a husband.
